About

While the inception of Handshucked Designs stemmed from a joke between friends some years ago, Chris Higgins, a trained graphic artist, has been quite serious about establishing his artistic style since, and expressing it in the original art + designs he creates under the Handshucked name today.

After finishing his university studies in art + graphic design, moving to Key West and focusing on a career in design for over a decade, Chris set up a workshop in a broken down bread-truck turned studio at COAST’s original location in Stock Island, FL. There he began creating his own art and hand printed apparel and alas, the Handshucked name was rebooted. The Lost Cat series was developed soon after, and what followed was an array of public pieces - from the original 12” wooden cats to a life sized series of local legends to a 60’ tall mural - as well as smaller scale art on a variety of mediums, and the apparel inspired by it.

Chris’ style combines a street art sensibility with bold illustration and elements of graffiti as well as pop art, all while finding inspiration in dynamic yet simplified design, and most often, a good joke.

Chris, along with his wife and young daughter, left Key West a couple of years ago and settled in the town of Gainesville, FL, a move which has allowed for more artistic growth. Chris now splits his time between Gainesville and Key West, where he’s recently opened a studio + retail shop, Handshucked Studio, located at 803 Whitehead Street.

All art and designs presented on handshucked.com are designed and produced by Chris, in studio. Apparel is also printed in house, and printed to order, so please allow a few business days pre-shipping. Screens are burned using the sun and printing is pulled by hand.
